Why It Matters

Does It Matter Which Port Your Cargo Arrives At?

Often yes. Each port has its own terminal operators, truck slot systems, empty container parks, and detention procedures. Choosing the wrong port for your destination can add days to clearance and thousands to detention fees.

We work with all six major Australian ports, so we can advise which port makes the most sense for your cargo, destination, and timeline. For example: cargo bound for regional Queensland is usually cheaper and faster via Port of Brisbane than Port Botany, even though Port Botany is larger.

Wherever your cargo arrives, we know the terminal, the local trucking rules, and the fastest path to your door. Choose your port above to see the details.

What We Know About Each Port

Got Questions?

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers about Australian ports and how we work with them.

Which is the busiest container port in Australia?

Port Botany (Sydney) and Port of Melbourne are Australia's two largest container ports, each handling over 2.5 million TEU (twenty-foot equivalent units) annually. Port of Brisbane is third, followed by Fremantle, Adelaide, and Darwin.

Can I choose which port my cargo arrives at?

Often yes. When we book your sea freight, we can arrange arrival at any Australian port based on your final delivery destination. Cargo for regional Queensland is usually cheaper via Port of Brisbane than Port Botany. Cargo for South Australia is usually cheaper via Port Adelaide than Melbourne. We'll advise the best port when quoting.

Do you only serve the port itself or regional areas too?

We serve all of Australia. Container haulage covers the port-to-premises leg to any destination — metro, regional, or remote. For example, Port Botany to Western Sydney is standard. Port Botany to Wagga Wagga is also standard. Longer distances are quoted accordingly, but the service is the same.

What about ports in Tasmania, Northern Territory, or regional areas?

We cover all six major container ports directly. For ports in Tasmania (Hobart, Bell Bay), the Northern Territory (Darwin), or regional ports, we can arrange transport via a connected sea leg or road linehaul from the nearest mainland port. For example: cargo arriving for Hobart is usually cleared through Melbourne and shipped across the Bass Strait by sea. We coordinate the full journey, so you get one quote, one provider, one point of contact.

How much does container haulage cost from each port?

Rates vary based on port, distance to your delivery address, container size (20ft vs 40ft), whether you need side-loader or specialised equipment, and current port fees. Typical pricing: Port Botany to Western Sydney ~$350–$500 for a 20ft, Port Botany to Melbourne ~$1,200–$1,800 for a 40ft. These are indicative only — exact prices depend on current market rates.
