About the Port

Port of Brisbane — Queensland's Largest Container Port

The Port of Brisbane is Queensland's largest container port, handling over 1.5 million TEU per year and acting as the primary import/export gateway for Brisbane, the Gold Coast, the Sunshine Coast, and regional Queensland. The port sits at the mouth of the Brisbane River, about 15 kilometres east of the CBD, in the Port of Brisbane industrial precinct at Fisherman Islands.

The port has two dedicated container terminals, operated by Patrick and DP World. Both terminals have their own truck slot booking systems and container release processes. Unlike Sydney and Melbourne, Brisbane's terminals are tightly clustered on the same island — which makes multi-container pickups faster and more efficient.

The Port of Brisbane also has direct rail access to the Acacia Ridge intermodal terminal, about 25 km inland. That means some containers arrive at Acacia Ridge by rail rather than by truck — we handle both, so you're not limited to truck pickups from the port itself.

We operate daily out of the Port of Brisbane. Our drivers know the terminal congestion patterns, the empty container parks at Port of Brisbane, Pinkenba, and Hemmant, and the fastest routes to every industrial precinct across southeast Queensland and northern NSW.

Got Questions?

Port of Brisbane FAQ

Quick answers to common questions about container transport from the Port of Brisbane.

Which container terminals operate at the Port of Brisbane?

The Port of Brisbane has two dedicated container terminals: Patrick and DP World, both located on Fisherman Islands. Each terminal has its own truck slot booking system, container release process, and turnaround times. Because both terminals are on the same island (unlike Sydney and Melbourne where terminals are spread across multiple locations), multi-container pickups are faster and more efficient — one truck can do one trip to collect containers from both terminals.

How long does container pickup from the Port of Brisbane take?

Typical terminal turnaround is 30–50 minutes from arrival at the gate to exit with the container loaded. Brisbane's terminals are generally faster than Sydney's or Melbourne's because both operators are on the same island and the road network to the island is less congested. Peak hours are 7–10am and 3–6pm — we book truck slots in advance to avoid the worst windows.

Do you clear customs at the Port of Brisbane?

Yes. We lodge customs declarations with the Australian Border Force (ABF) for cargo arriving at the Port of Brisbane, and coordinate any DAFF biosecurity inspection or fumigation required. Because we clear and haul under one provider, your container goes from clearance directly onto the truck — no gap between the broker releasing it and a separate trucking company picking it up.

Where are the empty container parks near the Port of Brisbane?

Empty container parks (ECPs) serving the Port of Brisbane are located at Port of Brisbane itself, Pinkenba, and Hemmant. Which park you return to depends on the shipping line's designated depot for that container. We know each line's ECP preferences and plan the return leg accordingly — avoiding the wasted trips that cause detention fees.

Can you pick up from Acacia Ridge intermodal terminal instead of the port?

Yes. Many containers arriving at the Port of Brisbane are railed directly to the Acacia Ridge intermodal terminal (about 25 km inland) instead of being trucked from the port. We handle pickups from Acacia Ridge just as we do from the port terminals — same customs clearance, same haulage service, same empty return. This often saves time and cost for containers destined for western Brisbane, Ipswich, or the Darling Downs.

How much does container transport from the Port of Brisbane cost?

Indicative rates: Port of Brisbane to Brisbane metro ~$300–$450 for a 20ft, ~$400–$600 for a 40ft. Port of Brisbane to Gold Coast ~$500–$750. Port of Brisbane to Sunshine Coast ~$600–$850. Port of Brisbane to Toowoomba ~$700–$950. Port of Brisbane to Sydney ~$1,200–$1,800 (interstate linehaul). These are typical ranges — exact prices depend on container size, delivery address, equipment type, and current port fees. Contact us for a firm quote within 2–4 business hours.
